Seminary Notes- August 18th 2014:
Daily Quote:
"Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled. What I the Lord have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and through the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same." -Doctrine and Covenants 1:37-38.
The purpose of Heavenly Father's plan is....
Moses 1:39:
"This is my work and glory- to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."
What is the difference?
Immortality: Living forever.
Eternal Life: Living with God.
Thus, the purpose of Heavenly Father's plan is to help us gain eternal life.
What did we do in the pre-mortal life?
We learned about the Plan of Salvation.
What did God have that we didn't?
God had a body and knowledge.
The Plan of Salvation:
Pre-mortal life + Presence of God = Mortality ----------------------------> Eternal Life
- sin - baptized - repent - have faith
- physical death - comforter, the Holy Ghost
- endure to the end - keep and make covenants
- keep, follow and treasure the commandments
What did God propose?
Sending us to earth so we could prove how much we wanted to return to him.
What did we gain?
- Experience
- A body
Coming down to Earth, there would be obstacles in our way:
Doctrine and Covenants 20:19-20:
"And gave unto them commandments that they should love and serve him, the only living and true God, and that he should be the only being whom they should worship.
But by the transgression of these holy laws man became sensual and devilish, and became fallen man."
What are the obstacles which get in our way?
How does sin prevent us from becoming like our Father in Heaven?
1st Nephi 10:21:
"Wherefore, if ye have sought to do wickedly in the days of your probation, than ye are found unclean before the judgment-seat of God; and no unclean thing can dwell with God; wherefore, ye must be cast off forever."
Moses 6:57:
"Wherefore, teach it unto your children, that all men, everywhere, must repent, or they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God, for o unclean thing can dwell there, or dwell in his presence; for, in the language of Adam, Man of Holiness is his name, and the name of his Only Begotten is the Son of Man."
Alma 41:10-11:
"Do not suppose, because it has not been spoken concerning restoration, that ye shall be restored from sin to happiness. Behold, I say unto you, wickedness never was happiness.
And now, my son, all men that are in a state of nature, or I would say, in a carnal state, are in the gall of bitterness and in the bonds of iniquity; they are without God in the world, and they have gone contrary to the nature of God; therefore, they are in a state contrary to the nature of happiness."
Sin makes us unclean. No unclean thing can be in the presence of God. However, sin is a natural part of Earth life. Mistakes are inevitable and that is why repentance is such a wholesome part of the Gospel.

Where would be without the Atonement?
Nowhere. The price would be too high.
What is it we have to earn? How do we earn it? How do we access the power of the Atonement?
Doctrine and Covenants 18:22-23:
"And as many as repent and are baptized in my name, which is Jesus Christ, and endure to the end, the same shall be saved.
Behold, Jesus Christ is the name which is given of the Father, and there is none other name given whereby man could be saved;"
Doctrine and Covenants 25:13, 15:
"Wherefore, lift up thy heart and rejoice, and cleave unto the covenants which thou hast made.
Keep my commandments continually, and a crown of righteousness thou shall receive. And except thou do this, where I am you cannot come."
We:
-Are baptized.
-Repent.
-Have faith.
-Comforter, the Holy Ghost.
-Endure to the end.
-Keep, follow and treasure the commandments.
-Keep and make covenants.
The greatest gift we received on our baptismal day was the Gift of the Holy Ghost.
How has the Holy Ghost helped or been present in your life?
