Seminary Notes (August 26th 2013)

Hey guys :) For anyone who missed class on Monday, here is a summary of what we discussed.

Daily Thought:

"The size of your faith or the degree of your knowledge is not the issue- it is the integrity you demonstrate toward the faith you do have and the truth you already know". -Jeffrey R. Holland

What is Elder Holland saying?
Elder Holland is simply stating that the faith you obtain and have is far greater than the knowledge you have not obtained.

What is the importance of Gospel learning?
-To obtain knowledge.
-To grow from the knowledge you have gained.

Scriptures:
1st Nephi 1:

1-3: Why did Nephi write his record?
-To record the trials and tribulations of his day.
-Because he was highly favored by the Lord.
  Why is he highly favored?
-Nephi successfully triumphed over his trials and he understood that God loved him and was testing him through his trials.
We see this is 1st Corinthians 10:13:
"There hath no temptation taken you....God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that            ye are able."

14-15: Lehi's vision of the destruction of Jerusalem.
-What is Lehi's reaction to his vision?
Lehi is grateful and he rejoices because Heavenly Father informed him of what is to come and because he gave his family an opportunity to escape through his warning.

Apply this to your life. How would having the same reaction and Lehi and Nephi towards their trials, benefit you in regards to yours?

20: What is the Jew's reaction to Lehi's dream?
They are angry!

-Why does Nephi decide to write the Book of Mormon?
To show us the tender mercies of the Lord.
What are tender mercies?
Individualized blessings.
What are a few tender mercies you have received recently?
How you choose to allow your trials to affect your life is a tender mercy.
