Seminary Notest (September 10th 2013)

Daily Thought:

"The most important knowledge to be gained in this life is the which comes by revelation through the Holy Ghost. This is not to belittle in any way information available in a multitude of disciples or fields of study. But any of individually or all of it put together can never equal the importance of receiving the personal witness, borne on the wings of the Spirit, of sacred things. That witness brings light and certainty and peace." - L. Aldin Parker, Emeritus General Authority

Scriptures:
1st Nephi 10:
-What is a "Messiah"
  * The chosen or anointed one.

1st Nephi 10:17 & 11:1-6:

Desire:
-What did Nephi desire to see, hear and know?
To see the vision of his father. To hear and know the revelation/ knowledge gained from his vision.

-How do our desires effect our ability to receive revelation?
If you want something enough, Heavenly Father will give it to you. If you seek after the incorrect things, you will not receive revelation.

-What do I desire to know from the Lord?

Belief:
-What belief did Nephi express as he sought revelation?
Nephi believed that the Lord would reveal to him what he desired.
He believed his father and the Son of God.

-How might our beliefs influence our ability to receive revelation?
If you have a strong belief which conflicts with the teachings of the gospel, your heart and mind will not be open to revelation.

-How can I increase my testimony and belief in Jesus Christ?

Pondering:
-What happened when Nephi sat pondering?
Nephi became caught up in the Spirit of the Lord.

-Why can pondering lead to revelation?
When we think, we are allowing the Spirit time to influence and speak to us through revelation.

-What can I do to more diligently ponder the words of the prophets?

*To show that he wanted more revelation, Nephi.....
  ASKED! Nephi asked the Lord.

God reveals truth....
  1. When you desire, believe and ponder.
  2. When you ask him with a softened heart and open mind.
  3. Through revelation.
Think about a time you asked to know something from God.
-What is the meaning of the Tree of Life?
The Love of God.

18-21:

-Why does the Spirit show Nephi the things he testifies of?
Nephi believed, pondered and desired with all of his heart and mind.

How does today's lesson impact you? What one thing did you learn today which makes you different from yesterday? Did you listen to the Spirit?

How we listen to the Spirit and allow it to change and pact us is how we allow Christ to change us.
